Boston Children's Museum Residency Fall 2019: PART I

Updated: May 21, 2020

Our first-ever Boston Children’s Museum Residency is in full swing! On Friday, November 15th, Sunny T., oboe, performed a fabulous musical adaptation of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” for our friends at the Museum in the Common.

With mentorship from Steve Schroth, BCM's Culture and Performing Arts Educator, and the Continuo staff, Sunny spent a month crafting and practicing this program. Together with the audience, we explored the 3 flavors of porridge cereal (Sunny’s 2019 take), the sizes of the 3 chairs, and the qualities of the 3 beds -- all through music!

During the performance, Sunny led the audience -- kids, parents, guardians, and all -- through different musical activities. For the chairs, the audience made themselves “big” when the music got loud, and “small” when the music got soft! At the very end, we all sang a lullaby for Goldilocks, “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”, with Sunny playing the melody on her oboe to help Goldilocks fall asleep in the smallest bed.

The next Continuo programming at the Children’s Museum includes 1) an observation of Music and Movement, a regular BCM music program, and 2) a second performance featuring Sunny on December 8th.

Join us on Sunday, December 8th at the Children’s Museum (programs at both 2 pm and 3 pm) to hear Sunny and have a great time!

Through this program, Continuo musicians will participate in a semester-long residency (4 on-site dates) at Boston Children’s Museum, creating learning and performance opportunities emphasizing collaboration and a variety of audiences. To learn more, see Community Performance Series.
